- Tear don't cut — tearing clump foliage creates natural, irregular edges that look far more realistic than cut edges
- Apply in layers — build up multiple small clumps at different heights for a rich, dense, shadowed woodland look
- Use superglue for speed — a small dot of superglue holds clump foliage instantly without waiting for PVA to dry
- Drybrush for highlights — a light drybrush of mid green or yellow-green over applied foliage adds depth and dappled light effects

- Prepare your surface. Make sure the surface is clean and dry. If you are applying the clump foliage to a vertical surface, you may want to apply a thin coat of varnish first to protect the paint.
- Apply a thin layer of glue to the area where you want to apply the clump foliage. You can use a brush or your fingers to do this.
- Pull the clump foliage apart into smaller pieces. This will make it easier to apply and will give you more control over the final effect.
- Place the clump foliage on the glue. Be careful not to overdo it. You can always add more clump foliage later if needed.
- Use a brush to gently press the clump foliage into the glue. Make sure that all of the pieces are well-adhered.
- Allow the glue to dry completely. This may take several hours.
- Once the glue is dry, you can trim away any excess clump foliage with a hobby knife.
- If you want, you can prime and paint the clump foliage. This is not necessary, but it can help to create a more finished look.
