Tips
Tips
- Apply generously — coarse flock needs a good layer to build up realistic volume and depth for convincing canopy foliage
- Build full canopy trees — apply to armature wire or foam tree shapes with PVA for dense, realistic jungle canopy trees
- Layer over lighter green — apply Rainforest Canopy over a base of Rainforest Green for a rich, varied, multi-tonal jungle canopy
- Press firmly into wet glue — press the flock down gently after pouring to ensure good adhesion before shaking off the excess
- Mix colours for realism — blend Rainforest Canopy with Fern Dark Green Clump Foliage for a truly layered, cinematic jungle scene
- Drybrush for highlights — a light drybrush of mid green or yellow-green over sealed flock adds sun-dappled highlights to the canopy
- Seal thoroughly — apply scenic sealant or diluted PVA over dried flock to lock it in place for gaming use
- Use for overhead terrain — apply to foam board or card canopy pieces suspended above the table for immersive jungle gaming terrain
Instructions for use
Instructions for use
This coarse flock is designed to create highly realistic, dense foliage, brush, and textured ground cover.
What You Will Need:
- Geek Gaming Scenics Coarse Flock
- Scenic Glue (PVA or Fast Drying Basing Glue is recommended)
- Applicator tool (old brush, sculpting tool, or spatula)
- Sealant/Matte Varnish (Recommended)
- Collection Tray (to catch excess flock)
Step-by-Step Guide for Miniature Bases & Small Terrain:
- Prepare the Surface: Ensure the surface (base or terrain piece) is clean, dry, and has any base coats of paint applied.
- Apply the Glue: Using an old brush or sculpting tool, apply an even, liberal layer of scenic glue to the specific area where you want the flock to adhere.Tip: For extra texture, you can stipple the glue to create small peaks and valleys.
- Apply the Flock: Hold the base over your collection tray. Generously scoop or pinch the Coarse Flock and sprinkle or press it directly onto the wet glue. Ensure the area is completely covered. For Dense Brush: Gently press the flock into the glue to achieve maximum volume and adhesion.
- Remove Excess: Carefully tap the base firmly against the side of your collection tray to dislodge all loose and excess flock. Collect the fallen flock for reuse.
- Allow to Dry: Allow the base to dry completely. This can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours depending on the type and thickness of the glue used.
- Seal (Recommended): Once completely dry, apply a coat of Matt Scenic Sealant Spray or matte varnish over the flocked area to permanently lock the material in place and prevent shedding.
Tips for Large Terrain Boards:
- Patchwork Application: Work in small, manageable sections to prevent the glue from drying before you apply the flock.
- Layering for Realism: To achieve varied texture, first apply a layer of fine sand or earth scatter, seal it, and then apply the Coarse Flock over specific areas (like bushes or banks) for layered depth.
- Blending: When flocking next to areas of static grass or other materials, use a clean, dry brush while the glue is wet to gently blend the edges for a more natural transition.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
- 1. Sealing is Key
- Always Seal: For maximum durability, especially on miniature bases and wargaming terrain that will be frequently handled, it is highly recommended to seal the flock after the glue has completely dried.
- Recommended Product: Use a dedicated scenic sealant like Geek Gaming Scenics Matt Scenic Sealant Spray or a matte varnish. This locks the flock in place and prevents shedding during play.
- 2. Cleaning & Maintenance
- Dust Removal: Use a soft, dry brush (like a large makeup brush or an old, soft paintbrush) to gently dust the flocked areas. Brush lightly in one direction.
- Avoid Vacuuming: Do NOT use a vacuum cleaner, as the suction can pull up and damage the flocking material, even if it is sealed.
- Spot Cleaning (Extreme Cases): If a small area is soiled, use a cotton swab very lightly dampened with water. Dab gently, do not rub, and let the area air dry completely. Only do this if absolutely necessary.
- 3. Storage and Handling
- Handling: When handling finished miniatures or terrain, try to hold them by the edges or the main model structure, minimizing contact with the flocked areas.
- Storage: Store finished pieces in a cool, dry environment. Avoid storing in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, even though the dyes are lightfast, as this can degrade the glue and sealant over time.
- Transportation: When moving terrain or miniatures, use specialized storage cases with foam or compartments to prevent pieces from rubbing against each other, which can cause abrasion and loss of flock.
