Mix colours — blend 2–3 shades together before applying for a more natural, varied look
- Layer up — apply fine flock first for a base coat, then add coarse flock on top for depth and texture
- Use a sieve — sprinkling through a fine sieve gives more even, controlled coverage
- Recycle excess — pour unused flock back into the bag; nothing goes to waste
- Wet blending — while PVA is still wet, push flock into clumps to simulate tufts and undergrowth
- Seal well — a matt varnish coat locks everything in place and prevents shedding during play
