Tips

  • Apply as a base layer first — apply Fine Flock over your painted base before adding static grass, tufts, or coarse flock for a natural, seamless finish
  • Press firmly into wet glue — press the flock down gently after pouring to ensure good adhesion before shaking off the excess
  • Use to fill gaps — sprinkle Fine Flock into gaps between larger scenic elements to create a smooth, consistent ground cover
  • Mix with earth tones — blend Olive Grove Fine Flock with a sandy or brown fine flock for a varied, convincing arid scrubland base

Instructions for use

This product is ideal for miniature basing, wargaming terrain, and dioramas.

Materials Needed:

  • Geek Gaming Scenics Fine Flock
  • PVA Glue or Fast-Drying Basing Glue
  • (Optional) Matt Scenic Sealant Spray
  • Small paintbrush or applicator brush
  • A container or tray to catch excess flock

Step 1: Prepare the Surface

  1. Prep: Ensure the base, terrain piece, or diorama area is completely clean, dry, and free of dust.
  2. Base Coat (Recommended): For best results, paint the surface underneath a color similar to the flock (e.g., a dark brown or dark green). This ensures any tiny gaps look like soil instead of bare plastic.

Step 2: Apply the Adhesive

  1. Apply Glue: Use a paintbrush to apply a generous, but not overly thick, layer of PVA glue or basing glue over the entire area you wish to cover.
  2. Ensure Evenness: Ensure the glue is spread evenly right up to the edges. Fine flock works best when it has a smooth, consistent layer of adhesive to settle into.

Step 3: Apply the Fine Flock

  1. The Dip Method (For Bases): While the glue is still wet, gently press the base straight down into a container of the Fine Flock.
  2. The Sprinkle Method (For Terrain): Liberally sprinkle or shake the Fine Flock over the wet glue until the entire surface is completely covered.
  3. No Gaps: Ensure the flock covers every visible spot of glue.

Step 4: Secure and Cure

  1. Remove Excess: Immediately after application, gently hold the base/piece over your collection tray and firmly tap the underside to shake off all loose, excess flock. Funnel this excess back into the original tub for later use.
  2. Cure: Allow the piece to dry completely for a minimum of 6 to 12 hours (or until the glue is fully clear and set).

Step 5: Seal and Protect (Crucial for Wargaming)

  1. Seal: Once dry, apply a coat of Matt Scenic Sealant Spray over the flocked surface using a spray bottle or pipette.
  2. Cure Again: Let the sealant dry fully. This final step is essential to lock the fine particles in place, preventing shedding during handling and gameplay.

Care Instructions

  • 1. Sealing is Key
  • Always Seal: For maximum durability, especially on miniature bases and wargaming terrain that will be frequently handled, it is highly recommended to seal the flock after the glue has completely dried.
  • Recommended Product: Use a dedicated scenic sealant like Geek Gaming Scenics Matt Scenic Sealant Spray or a matte varnish. This locks the flock in place and prevents shedding during play.
  • 2. Cleaning & Maintenance
  • Dust Removal: Use a soft, dry brush (like a large makeup brush or an old, soft paintbrush) to gently dust the flocked areas. Brush lightly in one direction.
  • Avoid Vacuuming: Do NOT use a vacuum cleaner, as the suction can pull up and damage the flocking material, even if it is sealed.
  • Spot Cleaning (Extreme Cases): If a small area is soiled, use a cotton swab very lightly dampened with water. Dab gently, do not rub, and let the area air dry completely. Only do this if absolutely necessary.
  • 3. Storage and Handling
  • Handling: When handling finished miniatures or terrain, try to hold them by the edges or the main model structure, minimizing contact with the flocked areas.
  • Storage: Store finished pieces in a cool, dry environment. Avoid storing in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, even though the dyes are lightfast, as this can degrade the glue and sealant over time.
  • Transportation: When moving terrain or miniatures, use specialized storage cases with foam or compartments to prevent pieces from rubbing against each other, which can cause abrasion and loss of flock.
