Tips
Tips
- Mix Large and Small crystals — combine Weird Crystals Large with Weird Crystals Small in the same colour for a natural, multi-scale crystal formation effect
- Use superglue for speed — superglue bonds crystals instantly and holds them firmly upright; PVA works well for flatter, embedded placements
- Build up in clusters — group 3–5 crystals together at varying angles to mimic natural mineral formations rather than placing them individually
- Apply before other scenic elements — position your crystals first, then build flock, ballast, and tufts around them for a seamless, integrated finish
- Prime before painting — if you want to paint or wash the crystals, a light spray of grey primer first helps paint adhere evenly
- Use washes for depth — apply a thinned yellow or orange wash over sealed crystals to add shadow and depth to the facets
- Seal before varnishing — apply a thin coat of PVA or scenic sealant around the base of each crystal to lock them in place before applying a final varnish
- Ideal for batch basing — work across multiple bases at once; apply glue to all bases, then place crystals quickly before the adhesive sets
Instructions for use
Instructions for use
Step 1 – Prepare the Surface Ensure your base is painted and any ballast, sand, or texture paste is fully dry before applying crystals. Plan the placement of your crystals before applying any adhesive.
Step 2 – Apply the Adhesive Apply a small drop of superglue or PVA directly to the spot where you wish to place each crystal. For superglue, work one crystal at a time. For PVA, you can prepare several positions at once.
Step 3 – Position the Crystals Using a cocktail stick, tweezers, or your fingertip, press each crystal firmly into the adhesive. Hold briefly to bond. Angle crystals at slightly different directions to mimic natural mineral formations.
Step 4 – Build Around the Crystals Once the crystals are set, apply flock, ballast, tufts, or other scenic elements around the base of each crystal to integrate them naturally into the base.
Step 5 – Seal and Protect Apply a thin coat of PVA or scenic sealant around the base of each crystal to lock them in place. Once dry, finish with a matt or satin varnish spray for a durable, long-lasting result.
